A major and stable share of Elkem's silicon is sold to the chemical industry producing silicones. End-users are, among others, automotive industry, construction and civil engineering, cosmetics and clothing industry and the manufacturers of semi-conductors.

Elkem supplies a major share of the world's silicon for the manufacturing of polycrystalline silicon. Our Silgrain^® provides benefits to producers of polysilicon, used in the manufacturing of semi-conductors, integrated circuits, optical fibres, photovoltaic cells, etc.

Metallurgical silicon is a vital part of the aluminium alloys used in casting applications. Elkem offers silicon grades both for critical security parts such as aluminium wheels, and material for use in the environmentally important secondary aluminium industry.

Elkem Microsilica^® is one of the principle products supplied by Elkem Silicon Materials. It finds a wide range of applications in high-strength concrete, other building materials such as roof tiles and facade cladding, and fire proof products for heavy industry. Microsilica is also used for sealing tunnels and drilling oil wells.
