Silicon products
For the refractory and ceramic industries, our portfolio is composed of 3 brands which differ by the purity they offer to the market. From the purest to the lowest purity we propose:
Silgrain® HQ and Silgrain®
One of our plants, Elkem Bremanger, has specialized in the manufacture of high purity grades of silicon. Elkem Bremanger has the world’s only facility for the production of metallurgical silicon by a patented hydrometallurgical process. Refined metallurgical silicon is sold under the trademark Silgrain®. The Silgrain® process removes impurities in high-silicon ferrosilicon by an acid treatment. The end product is a very pure quality metallurgical silicon which consists of small crystals of silicon, measuring between 0 and 2 millimeters. A part of this silicon undergoes further purification to produce an even purer silicon: the Silgrain® HQ products.
Both quality and size are detailed under the product data sheets section. Other sizes can also be made on demand. The product are delivered in small bags (25 kg) or big bags (1000 kg).
Si-NINE grades
The metallurgical silicon obtained by the usual process is selected, crushed and milled in order to provide different grades of silicon powder. Therefore we can offer different purity grades relating to iron, aluminium and calcium contents, from the highest to the lowest
Each grade is available in two sizings: 0-45µm and 0-75µm. Other sizes can also be made on demand. All grades are delivered in small bags ( 25kg) or big bags (1000 kg).
One application of these products is: anti-oxidant in carbon containing refractories and in SiC-graphite crucibles production.
Si- Marble grades
Some silicon grades are also used to provide metallic decoration and/or a shiny surface on artificial marble or porcelanic tiles.
