Particle packing & particle size distribution
One of the basic principles of concrete technology is the need for maximum packing of the particles. The purpose is to obtain the smallest possible volume of free space in the concrete material. The tiny particles of microsilica fill in between the coarser cement grains and improve packing of the system. In a typical concrete mix there will be 50 to 100 000 microsilica particles for each grain of cement.
EMMA mix optimising software
EMMA is a computer program for evaluation of particle-packing, including the production of self-flowing concrete.
