Control of Particle Size Distribution - PSD - is an important key in developing advanced particulate-based materials, such as refractory castables, concrete and mortars. It is, however, difficult to predict just what the properties of a newly- designed material will be, such as flow of a newly-designed castable or concrete.
Elkem Materials has developed a software package that gives you the power to design optimally-packed materials. The package was originally designed for refractory castables, but has been extended to cover general particulates, such as concrete. Together with extensive laboratory testing and documentation, EMMA (Elkem Materials Mixture Analyzer) provides the basis for accurate design, for instance of vibra-table and self-flowing castables, for Sel Consolidating Concrete (SCC), and even for Very and Ultra High Strength Concrete (VHSC, UHSC).
EMMA uses the Andreassen model of particle-packing and calculates the composite particle size distribution. In EMMA you may create your own material library of individual component material PSDs. You may then display the PSD of any combination of these materials.
EMMA has a number of refinements over the original LISA, such as reduced minimum particle size (to 20 Nm), import of distributions directly from spreadsheet or table, new format for plots, improved registration etc.
So, when you need an advanced material, such as a self-flowing castable, SCC or UHPC, allow us at Elkem Silicon Materials to take some of the guesswork out of the design procedure. With EMMA you will experience reduced trial and error and save valuable time.
