- The silicon metal plants Elkem Fiskaa Silicon and Elkem Meraker closed.
- Orkla invests NOK 2,7 billion in a new plant for production of high-purity silicon for solar energy at Elkem Fiskaa in Kristiansand.

2005

- Orkla takes over Elkem and the Elkem share is delisted
- Elkem takes over Sapa and the Sapa share is delisted
- Elkem and Sapa are brother-sister corporations within the Orkla Group

2004
- Elkem acquires 23% in Renewable Energy Corp

2003
- Elkem reaches 100% in Icelandic Alloys
- Sapa acquires 100% of Remi Claeys Aluminium

2002
- Elkem sells ferrochrome business to Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (“CVRD”)
- Alcoa reaches 40% level and makes a mandatory offer for all outstanding shares in Elkem
- Elkem reaches 40% level in Sapa and gives a mandatory offer for all outstanding shares
- Elkem reaches 72% level in Sapa

- Purchase of 35% in Sapa AB
- EU approves Sapa deal
