Taphole and ladle materials

The use of ELTAP™ products contributes to controlled tapping of metal and closure of taphole, increased lifetime of materials due to high oxidation resistance and less taphole work.

The ELTAP™ taphole and ladle materials offer several advantages:
  • A monolithic alternative to blocks and bricks, fit most shapes.
  • High oxidation resistance

ELTAP™ Self-flowing pastes

  • Type MA is used in tapholes. The material shows increased resistance against oxidation especially when applied in FeSi and SiMn production.
  • Type HotSiC is used in tapholes. The material shows high resistance against oxidation especially when applied in FeSi, Si and SiMn production. Maintenance work on the taphole can be reduced to 1/3 compared to other taphole repair materials.

ELTAP™ Tamping pastes

  • Type SMB is an environmentally friendly product with no harmful components. The material has high resistance against oxidation and is slightly expanding during baking.
  • Type SM is used in tapholes and runners. The material shows high resistance against oxidation.
  • Type SiC is used in tapholes and runners. The material show high resistance against oxidation especially when applied in FeSi, Si and SiMn production. Maintenance work on the taphole and runner can be reduced to 1/3 compared to other materials. Less metal and slag get attached to Type SiC compared to other material.
  • Type KR has a PAH-free binder and achieves sufficient mechanical strength already at 130°C. Due to this the material be installed close to water cooling in tapholes and in runners where high baking temperatures are not obtained.
