Many students visited our stand, curious about Elkem’s trainee program. Questions regarding all aspects of the trainee program were discussed, including details regarding the hiring process, where you could work, and the everyday life as a trainee.
As neither of us has written a blog post here before, we have to introduce ourselves first. Heidi is currently situated at Elkem Thamshavn in Orkanger for her first trainee period where she is working on refining of Si, while Espen has his first trainee period at Elkem Silicon Materials in Kristiansand where he works with Microsilica.
The curiosity and interest shown by the students made it an easy task to spread the word about Elkem and our trainee program, and the hours therefore flew by. In addition to learning about the possibilities in Elkem, the students could also answer a quiz, which included guessing the weight of a piece of silicon brought from Thamshavn, shown in the picture below. This turned out to be quite tricky!
In the evening we were fortunate to meet the students in another arena, as Materialdagen also included a banquet in the evening. Here it was possible to talk in a more laid back atmosphere, while enjoying good foods and drinks, and various entertainment for several hours.
When leaving the banquet late in the evening, both of us were happy with the outcome of the day, as it had been a pleasure to meet interesting students, old friends, and at the same time talk about the vast opportunities available in the Elkem trainee program. Heidi can also look forward to repeating this once again when representing Elkem at Kjemidagen on October 28th, but this time, another first year trainee, Marie, will accompany her instead of Espen. Hope to see you there!
