Last week, on an annual conference for health, safety and environment at smelting plants in Nord-Trøndelag, Norway, Elkem Carbon Fiskaa received the prestigious award. The plant in Kristiansand won the award because they have shown positive development in key aspects injury statistics, sick leave and safety.

Plant manager Odd Olsen is very satisfied with the award: - It is definitely a great acknowledgment to win the Security award for 2014. It is the continuous work of our employees over a long period of time that is now showing results.

Continuous improvement is on our values and always in the front of our management. Elkem is proud that our work is noticed also outside of the organisation.

The environment policy of the plant was also crucial for Elkem Carbon Fiskaa to take the award home. The vision of being a dust free plant, and the committee highlighted the ability to reduce dust the last years.

- Today, we have a clean indoor air quality, and we do not need to wear a dust mask anymore, says Odd Olsen. – But this is not good enough for us. Our goal is to reduce the occurrence of dust to 0,25 milligram per cubic meters air by 2017.
