Temporary adjustment of silicon production at Elkem Salten

In order to balance the global silicon market, Elkem will temporary reduce production of silicon by one furnace at Elkem Salten. The adjustment will be initiated from 7 January.

“As a leading global producer of silicon, it is important for us to ensure a sustainable market balance and development. In 2018 prices developed negatively as a result of oversupply. Several production cut-backs have been initiated by other companies during second half of 2018. Further temporary supply adjustments are necessary to balance the market, and we will adjust production at our Salten plant. We will continue to monitor the market closely and realign capacity as soon as market conditions and outlooks improve,” says Trond Sæterstad, Senior Vice President of Elkem Silicon Materials.
