PSTC 2022

Stop by and visit us at the upcoming Tape Summit to be held on May 2nd & 5th

Please join Kyle Rhodes, Regional Market Manager, Release Coatings and PSAs, at the PSTC Conference on Wednesday, May 4th. He will discuss the chemistry and the mechanisms behind how RCAs work within the structure of the polymers. Kyle has a Master’s degree in Chemistry and has spent most of his 25+ years working in the silicone industry. His experience with silicone pressure sensitive adhesives and silicone chemistry provides valuable insight into the mechanics of how these work. Kyle also serves as North American president of CELAB.

The modification of Release Force with Release Control Additive

The force required to peel a liner from the adhesive can be modified to achieve a target release value by adding release control additives to the silicone release coating. These modifiers, also called Controlled Release Additives (CRA) or Release Control Additives (RCA), are typically used when a higher level of force is needed to separate the liner from the adhesive. The interaction between the silicone chain length and the chemistry of the polymer affects the RCA loading. An evaluation of each system is needed to determine which RCA is needed and can be tailored to match the coating process and end use application.
