Bluestar Silicones main site in France becomes the first ISCC PLUS-certified silicone plant in Europe

This landmark achievement reinforces Bluestar Silicones’ leadership in sustainable materials and reflects the company’s long‑term ambition to accelerate a credible, auditable and industrially robust circular economy for silicones. By achieving ISCC PLUS certification at Saint‑Fons, Bluestar Silicones strengthens its ability to deliver circular solutions at scale while maintaining the performance, quality and regulatory profiles customers expect.

It is especially valuable for customers operating in regulated or qualification-sensitive environments, because it allows them to integrate certified circular feedstock while maintaining the technical consistency and documentation they rely on. Combined with ISCC PLUS verification, it provides a scalable and credible way to support circularity and Scope 3 ambitions.”

With ISCC PLUS certification in place, the Saint‑Fons site is authorised to allocate certified circular siloxane feedstock attributes through the mass balance chain‑of‑custody model. In practical terms, this means that nearly all eligible silicone materials manufactured on site—including silicone polymers, fluids, emulsions, heat‑cured rubber, room‑temperature vulcanizing formulations, among others—can now be supplied with ISCC Sustainability Declarations, formally documenting the allocated share of certified circular feedstock under strict third‑party‑audited rules.

For customers, the mass balance approach is designed as a drop‑in solution. The silicone products delivered remain unchanged in formulation, performance and specifications. What evolves is the sustainability attribute allocation and a drastic reduction of the Product Carbon Footprint, enabling customers to support their circularity and Scope 3 objectives through the use of circular feedstocks, without disrupting qualification processes or production conditions.

Mass balance is a well-established approach in the chemical industry, often compared to the renewable electricity model.

While the physical product remains identical, sustainability attributes from certified circular feedstocks introduced upstream are allocated through verifiable bookkeeping and independent audits. ISCC PLUS certification provides the recognised framework that ensures traceability, transparency, and credibility for these allocations.

By becoming the first ISCC PLUS‑certified silicone plant in Europe, Saint‑Fons sets a new reference point for the industry.
