Lower Carbon & Circular Silicones
Elkem Silicones is making significant strides in sustainability by focusing on reducing carbon footprints, enhancing circularity, and developing safer materials. Our efforts are driven by the growing market demand for environmentally responsible products and the need to meet stringent emissions reduction targets.

Lower carbon footprint
Elkem’s reporting and analysis show that the silicones we manufacture in Europe and the Americas have one of the lowest carbon footprints in the industry, estimated to be about 30% lower than the industry average as calculated from by the Global Silicones Council By sourcing silicones from Elkem, customers can effectively meet their Scope 3 emission reduction targets and lower their own Product Carbon Footprint (PCF), aligning with the growing demand for environmentally responsible products.

Circular silicone solutions
SIRCLE™ IS ELKEM’S PORTFOLIO OF CIRCULAR SILICONES
Silicone products from Elkem’s Sircle™ portfolio are designed to use less fossil resources as they include for example bio-based or recycled content, resulting in a lower product carbon footprint and maintaining the high-quality standards Elkem’s customers are used to. Products from the Sircle™ portfolio will help Elkem’s customers deliver more sustainable solutions to the market, anticipate future regulations and rapidly decrease their Scope 3 emissions while making no compromise on performance.
OUR CIRCULAR SILICONE TECHNOLOGIES
We are passionate about making the most of and keeping the value of every molecule we use or produce : Elkem is investigating, developing and scaling up new technologies and processes to maximize raw material value, starting with in-house industrial waste.

Supporting your sustainability strategy and Scope 3 targets
CHEMICAL RECYCLING : SUCCESSFUL SCALING OF CHEMICAL SILICONE WASTE UPCYCLING PROJECT FROM A LABORATORY TO PILOT UNIT
Chemical recycling allows the production of new silicone products with performance and purity levels identical to those of virgin silicones. This approach can help our customers achieve their circularity and sustainability targets and stay ahead of future regulatory changes In 2024, Elkem invested in a recycling pilot unit at its main plant in France to transform select post-industrial waste into low carbon, recycled silicone polymers.
MECHANICAL RECYCLING : ADVANCING MECHANICAL RECYCLING OF SILICONE WITH A HIGH-PERFORMANCE APPROACH
Elkem is developing mechanical recycling technologies for crosslinked silicone elastomers, enabling the reintroduction of recycled material into new formulations. Our technologies surpass the current state of the art, allowing high re-incorporation rates (over 50%) while minimizing the impact on mechanical properties.
