For many years, Elkem’s flagship inoculant has been the world famous Superseed® inoculant, probably still the most widely used in the production of grey iron globally. Today we have a portfolio of inoculants designed to cover a wide range of applications in all cast iron segments.
Elkem produces an extensive range of MgFeSi alloys for the production of ductile and compacted graphite irons. Alloys are available in chemistries and sizes to suit all foundry applications - sandwich, tundish, flow-through, in-the-mould or other processes. We work with our customers to provide technical support and advice on maximising the value obtained from the use of our nodularisers. Low Mg alloys and alloys to counter shrinkage have become major areas of development and application in recent times, resulting in cost savings, increased productivity and improved environmental measurements.
Preconditioners and cover materials
Elkem has developed an alloy which may be added to the furnace during melting to stabilise the nuclei within the iron. This is called Preseed® preconditioner.
To maximise Mg recovery in ladle treatments and condition slag to a controllable form, a special cover material is available, TopseedÒ alloy.
